fascinating science fact

Ever wondered why birds fly in V Formation?
Here is the answer.
As bird flaps, a rotating vortex of air rolls off each of its wingtips. These vortices means that the air immediately behind the bird gets constantly pushed downwards (downwash), and off to the sides gets pushed upwards (upwash). If another bird flies in either of these upwash zones, it gets free lift. It can save energy by mooching off the air flow created by its flock-mate.
This makes it easier for the bird at the back to fly. And studies have shown that birds at the back have slower heart rates than the one at the front. Amazing ,aren’t they? Seems like they care for the weaker members of the flock.
This helps them to migrate over long distances as they switch places whenever one gets tired.
I never knew those birds were this much intelligent.
